Located amidst the unspoiled wilderness of Fell Lapland, we opened the ski and hiking lodge Kesängin Keidas back in 1995. Situated at the hillside of two neighbouring fell mountains, Kesänkitunturi and Kellostapuli, the café lies on the eastern shore of Lake Kesänkijärvi, surrounded by the pristine forests of the Pallas-Ylläs National Park. Many hiking trails in summer and cross country skiing tracks in winter lead past our café, which keeps open during autumn season and from late November to early May.
On cross country skis, Kesängin Keidas can be reached by an easily manageable trail of about 5 km length coming through Äkäslompolo. From the direction of Ylläsjärvi, two tracks of about 10 km lead to our café - the more demanding via Kellostapuli and an easier route via Latvamaja. If your sporty ambitions are more modest or you are planning a short outing only, you can take the car to the parking area on the western shore of Lake Kesänkijärvi and reach our café via a well maintained path along the picturesque lake. We adapted this path a few years ago, so nowadays it is suitable for a stroll with a baby carriage and offers easy access for people in a wheelchair.
At the time of Ruska in late summer, the forests of Lapland immerse in all tones of yellow, golden and red. Many of the forest and theme paths starting at the nature center Kellokas lead to our café, making it a popular destination even during fall.
Once arrived in Kesängin Keidas, you will enjoy the vast landscape from the sun terrace or take a bite in the dining room: Our menu includes traditional dishes such as freshly made pancakes with raspberry jam and whipped cream as well as a cold beer, our café is fully licensed. Being a traditional hiking hut as well, you may use the fireplaces outside to grill sausages and marsh mallows. Or just take a rest and enjoy the wonderful nature around our wilderness café Kesängin Keidas!
